The Birth of the Drum

Making your drum is not building an object: it is welcoming a being. The skin comes from an animal, the frame is shaped by your hands, and between the two a bond is woven, prepared, worked and celebrated.

This retreat unfolds in three steps: a meeting to set your project, a journey to the tannery to choose the skin and the frame, then four days of camp where the drum takes shape, until its birth.

The path

In three steps

  1. First contact A time of exchange to meet and discuss what you want to create: which drum, for what use, with what intentions. A quote is then sent to you.
  2. Journey to the tannery and choosing the frame Once the quote is accepted and the retreat invoice paid, we head to the tannery. You choose and pay for your skin on site, then your frame afterwards. Skin and frame are separate costs, paid directly at the tannery and to the frame supplier.
  3. The retreat Four days of camp to clean the skin, make the drum, create the bond with it, then welcome it into the world through a birth ritual.

Day by day

Four days,
one same breath

Each day has its own purpose: to set up, clean, make, connect, awaken, then integrate. Nothing is rushed, the drum builds at the pace it asks for.

Day 1

Welcome & connection

Set up camp, connect with the animal

  • Setting up the campsite.
  • Work to discover your power animal if you do not know it yet, then connection with the animal that gave its skin for the drum. ritual
  • Work with the elements, and the start of cleaning the skin.
Day 2

Making

From frame to drum

  • Morning. Finishing the cleaning of the skin if needed, rituals around the frame, making the beater, then starting to make the drum itself. ritual
  • 12:10. Meal break.
  • Afternoon. Finishing the drum's construction, searching for its sound, and creating the bond between you and your drum through various rituals. ritual
Day 3

Birth

The drum's awakening

  • Morning. The birth of the drum, a ritual to welcome and awaken it. You use it for the first time. ritual
  • Afternoon. Working on sounds and rhythms to tame your drum: rules of use, precautions, connecting and recharging the drum.
  • Night from the 3rd to the 4th day. You sleep with your drum.
Day 4

Integration

Return, debrief and closing

  • Morning. Looking back on the night spent with the drum: dreams and feelings shared.
  • Afternoon. A debrief on the four days. Together we see whether you want to go further with your drum, treatments or other practices, to be discussed at that point.
  • Around 17:00. Closing the day and taking down the camp.

The retreat and its fees

Four days in camp, guidance and rituals included: cleaning the skin, making the drum and the beater, the birth of the drum and learning to use it. This retreat is individual, but can also be done as a couple.
